Children of the Most High

“Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked.”
Luke 6:35

Being a child of God is not merely being at the receiving end of the blessing. It is not just a sugary sweet experience of floating on clouds being cuddled and spoiled by Daddy.

As His children, our acts, our conduct, our thinking and our mind-set should mirror His.

God being mistreated…

He is constantly being taken advantage of: his children receiving his blessings and provision and just using them for their own pleasure.

He is being mocked: how often have you heard people making jokes about God, or laughing at the gospel preached?

He is being cursed: bitter people hate him and blame him for all the evil in the world.

He is being rejected: he who lovingly designed and created us for a love relationship with him!

His very existence is being rationalised away by those whom he blessed with extra-ordinary intellects.

He is being misused and abused to the advantage of selfish gain, false religion and political power.

He easily could put an end to all this and destroy his mockers and enemies in one single moment. But He holds back on his anger, does not insist on getting even and clearing his name.

…and his response

Instead he is waiting, patiently and lovingly, for his enemies to turn to him.
He wants to be their friend.
He does not force himself on them.
He doesn’t feel delighted in their pain and misfortune.
He doesn’t go around telling others how they wronged him.
If one day they do turn to him, he will not take out a list with all their wrongdoings.
He will not demand compensation and he will not feel triumphant over them.

Living as God’s children we need to apply these same principles on those who treat us unjustly, with contempt, take advantage of us, betray us, gossip and spread lies about us. This is how we truly reflect our dear Father in Heaven.
